North Coast Beach Clean

Ulster University Student's Union alongside the University's Geography and Environmental society (GES) are cleaning the beaches of the North Coast. The first Beach Clean will take place on the 27th November and is the launch of a beach cleaning project ran by the University.

Causeway coast and glens is famously known for its beautiful shorelines and beaches - which are popular amongst both locals and tourists alike. Quarterly surveys carried out by the organization Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful found that the litter on Northern Ireland beaches reached its highest levels in 2019 since the surveys began seven years ago.

That is why it is vital that these areas of natural beauty be protected. Coleraine campus’ Vice President of the Students Union - Owen McCloskey has provided the following information on the upcoming beach clean ups;

“We are working with the National Trust and Causeway coast and glens council to take students to the Strand beach Portstewart and actively cleaning the beach.

This will be the first of many beach cleans and part of our wider Climate Emergency Campaign, aimed at tackling the impact we are having our our environment.

As well as the positive effect this will have on the environment the project also aims to help with wellbeing of our staff and students and we will begin the day with a small exercise to help everyone let go of any stress they are carrying. This beach clean is free to attend and open to all, we would really encourage all to get involved."
